The Dark Trio: Halloween Terror, Duke’s Dominion, and Minotaur Madness!

Halloween Event Overview

Event Duration

The Halloween event runs throughout October, featuring activities, rewards, and encounters centered around candy collection and battling the Jack-O-Kraken.

Key Features

Candy Collection

  • Methods: Players can gather candies by defeating Halloween-themed NPCs, engaging in special activities, and interacting with cauldrons scattered throughout the game.
  • Boosted Wilderness Drops: The Wilderness offers increased candy drops, making it the ideal yet riskier location for farming candies.
  • Cauldron Contributions: Candies collected can be deposited into cauldrons, contributing to the global event progress.

Cauldron Stages & Progression

  • Stage Requirements:
    • Stage 1: Requires 1 billion candies.
    • Stage 2: Requires 5 billion candies.
    • Stage 3: Requires 10 billion candies.
    • Stage 4: Requires 50 billion candies, marking the completion of the cauldron’s progression.
  • Each stage enhances the event’s rewards and available boosts, encouraging player participation.

Boost System

  • Activation: A boost is triggered when 50 million candies are deposited into the cauldron. The boost is randomly selected and active for 1 hour.
  • Available Boosts:
    • Double Candies, XP, Points (Division, Achievements, Groot, Discord).
    • Triple Tournament Points.
  • Jack-O-Kraken Spawn: When 100 million candies are globally contributed without a boost active, the Jack-O-Kraken is summoned.

Jack-O-Kraken Boss Fight

  • Spawn Conditions: The Jack-O-Kraken emerges when global contributions hit 100 million candies, or it may randomly appear through a boost event.
  • Unique Combat Mechanics:
    • Stage 1 – Luring the Kraken: Players must first use magic to drag the Kraken to the shore. Only then can they engage it properly in combat.
    • Stage 2 – Melee Combat: Once the Kraken reaches the shore, it becomes vulnerable to melee attacks. Players must quickly switch to melee to deal damage.
  • Combat Immunities: The Kraken is immune to ranged attacks entirely. While in the water, the Kraken can only be dragged with magic; otherwise, it resists all damage types.
  • Rewards & Damage Handling: Players who contribute significant damage receive Halloween-themed drops and may have additional rolls for rewards if certain conditions are met. Unique pets and rare items are possible rewards based on the player’s contribution.
  • The Jack-O-Kraken drops a new Halloween-specific set, the Witches outfit. While worn normally or in your cosmetic slot, it will inflict a bleed attack on NPC targets for your hit over 5 ticks, so if you hit 1500, it will deal 1500 over 5 ticks!

Candy Rewards & Wilderness Bonuses

  • Candy Drops: Defeating event NPCs rewards candies, with special bonuses applied in the Wilderness.
  • Increased Wilderness Drops: Players venturing into the Wilderness can receive double or triple candy drops, adding an element of risk vs. reward.

  • Small flying pumpkins have been scattered around the world. The best practice is to use a cannon to farm these efficiently, making it possible to get plenty of kills quickly!

  • Giant flying pumpkins have a 10% chance of spawning when a small variant is killed. These versions offer cosmetic Halloween outfits, more candy, and also the chance at a pet!

Event Area

The Jack-O-Kraken’s fight occurs within a designated boundary, ensuring players have the correct setting to engage with its mechanics effectively. The cauldrons are placed at key locations to facilitate easy candy deposit and participation in global progress.

Conclusion

The Halloween event, with its dynamic Jack-O-Kraken boss fight, offers unique mechanics that require players to adapt and strategize. The progression of the cauldron stages, boosts, and Wilderness advantages create a thrilling and community-driven experience throughout October.

Duke Sucellus Fight Overview

Duke Sucellus is a formidable boss fight, requiring strategic movement, quick reactions, and awareness of surroundings.

Fight Mechanics

1. Initial Phase: Asleep and Gas Flares

Duke Sucellus begins the fight in a dormant state. While asleep, random poisonous gas flares ignite throughout the arena. Avoid the gas flares, as they deal damage over time and apply a poison effect if a player stands too close.

2. Waking Up Duke

Upon entering the prison, Duke Sucellus is initially asleep and must be weakened with arder-musca poisons, made from resources found within the asylum – arder powder, musca powder, and salax salt. Making this poison requires six portions of each, and two poisons are required to wake the Duke up, so twelve of each will be needed in total. To the left and right of the asylum upon entering it, there is a pestle and mortar and iron pickaxe on the walls that players can take.

The salt piles are found in the centre of the asylum, surrounded by gas vents; three of these will release gas in a 3×3 AoE from the vent, dealing up to 12 damage that can be reduced with a slayer helmet or gas mask. Once a vent stops emitting gas, the next one will be one vent to the east, looping back to the opposite side if already on the eastern-most vent. Players are also recommended to bring the best pickaxe available, as this increases the rate of mining them. Having 80+ Mining also ensures that only two harvests need to be made.

Meanwhile, the mushrooms are found at the end of the opposing sides of the asylum, past the extremities. Up there, ice falls will randomly strike on a tile, freezing the player for 2 ticks (1.2 seconds) and dealing up to 18 damage. These occur specifically in the area right before the second staircase on both sides, and are indicated by a shadow looming over the tile they will strike on.

In addition, the extremities will periodically wake in succession and unleash their gaze in a cone radius; they will start from the middle, south, and then north in that order on both sides. Getting caught by their gaze will freeze the player for 5 ticks (3 seconds), drain 1/4th of their prayer points, and deal up to 70 damage. Players can ignore the extremities entirely by starting from one tile south of the southern extremity and running straight to the mushrooms, only having to watch out for ice falls. To do the same in reverse, start running from one tile north of the northern extremity.

In both of these corridors, there are only two safe spots in the actual area; the tile used to grab the mushrooms from, and the tile east from it for the arder mushrooms and the tile west for the musca mushrooms. These two tiles will never be targeted by ice falls and are safe from the nearby extremity.

Grinding arder and musca mushroom yields varying amounts of powder; at level 70 Herblore, each mushroom provides five powder, so three mushrooms of each type are needed. At 80+ Herblore, players will only need to grind two of each mushroom.

After acquiring twelve salax salt, arder powder, and musca powder, place them in both Fermentation Vats and let it ferment for several seconds before collecting two finished poisons. Any excess ingredients will be removed when the Duke awakens, meaning players cannot prepare poisons in advance for subsequent fights.

To wake Duke Sucellus, a player must use a wake-up potion near him. Once awakened, Duke Sucellus becomes aggressive and starts attacking.

3. Regular Attacks

  • Melee Icicle & Slam Attack: Duke slams the floor, sending out icicles in a pattern. Players caught in the area take significant damage unless protecting from melee.
  • Magical Cluster Attack: Duke fires magic projectiles that hit for high damage. Protection prayers reduce incoming magic damage.
  • Freezing Gaze (Special): Every fifth attack, Duke uses a special Gaze Attack that deals massive damage and freezes the target in place.

4. Avoiding the Gaze Attack

When Duke uses his Gaze Attack, he will announce it by saying, “I see you!” Players must hide behind pillars in the arena to avoid taking 75-99 damage and being frozen.

5. Enrage Phase (25% Health Threshold)

Once Duke Sucellus reaches 25% health, he enters an Enrage Phase. Attack speed is increased, and attacks become more frequent and aggressive.

6. Slap Floor Attack

During the fight, Duke may slam the floor, sending a wave of damage through the arena. Players must pray melee or move out of the attack area to avoid taking 30-50 damage.

7. Defensive Structures: Pillars

Pillars positioned throughout the arena provide protection from the Gaze Attack, allowing players to break the line of sight.

8. Defeating Duke Sucellus

Upon Duke’s death, players are moved to a safe location, and loot drops are generated. Defeating Duke contributes to achievements and rare rewards.

9. General Tips

  • Stay aware of the gas flares while Duke is asleep.
  • Hide behind pillars when Duke announces the Gaze Attack to avoid high damage and freezing.
  • In the Enrage Phase, be prepared for faster attacks and increased pressure.

The Minotaur is a powerful, multi-combat boss with a variety of attack styles, forcing players to stay on their toes and respond quickly to its moves.
